The Office of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee has just requested the Department of Education and Training to complete the report proposing to supplement the enrollment quota for 1 specialized Math class at Chu Van An High School for the Gifted in the 2026-2027 school year.
Chu Van An High School for the Gifted is currently the only specialized school in Lang Son province.
According to the approved plan, the school enrolls two specialized Math classes. If one class is added, the scale will increase to three classes, equal to Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City and higher than the common level in many specialized schools in localities with similar conditions.
The Office of the Provincial People's Committee believes that the report has not clarified the basis for Lang Son to increase the specialized Math class.
Meanwhile, the benchmark score for Literature major is 40.25 points and Chemistry major is 39.35 points, both higher than Math major with 37.75 points.
The two subjects Literature and Chemistry currently only enroll one class per subject, but the report has not explained why it is not proposed to increase quotas for subjects with higher benchmark scores.
Facilities conditions are also required to be re-evaluated. The school currently has 36 classrooms, two computer practice rooms, two foreign language practice rooms, two laboratories and one STEM practice room.
To arrange a new specialized Math class, the school plans to convert a foreign language practice room into a regular classroom. At that time, the school will only have one foreign language practice room left.
In the 2026-2027 school year, the school is expected to have 9 foreign language specialized classes, including 6 English specialized classes and 3 Chinese specialized classes, not to mention the foreign language learning needs of students in other specialized classes.
The Office of the Provincial People's Committee requested to clarify whether the remaining foreign language practice room meets the requirements of teaching and fostering key students or not.
The Department of Education and Training is requested to review and complete the report for the Provincial People's Committee to organize a thematic meeting to consider proposing to open more specialized Math classes.
