Ministry of Transport talks about proposal to repair National Highway 54

Xuyên Đông |

On October 28, the Ministry of Transport responded to voters' petition to repair National Highway 54.

Voters in Vinh Long proposed to repair National Highway 54 (section passing through Tra On district, Vinh Long province).

According to voters, although there has been investment in repairs in the past, they are still not guaranteed and not uniform, cracks appear along the road axis, some sections have only patched patchy road surfaces, and many potholes appear, affecting people's travel.

In addition, voters also proposed to widen the road surface and increase the vehicle load on National Highway 54 because the road is currently narrow and the number of vehicles participating in traffic is increasing, causing difficulties for people to travel and transport goods.

Responding to this issue, the Ministry of Transport said that the section of National Highway 54 through Vinh Long province from Km31+597 - Km82+662 is about 51.1km long, through Tra On district from Km65+900 to Km82+663, the section with damaged road surface as voters reported is from Km77 - Km77+450.

To handle road surface damage and drainage to ensure smooth and safe traffic, in the 2024 road maintenance plan.

The Ministry of Transport has allocated funds to carry out road surface repair work including 3 categories of projects with a cost of about 53 billion VND.

The project includes: the damaged road section from Km77 – Km77+450 within the scope of the project “Repairing asphalt pavement from Km75 – Km82+622; Repairing the drainage system of the sections Km77 – Km77+450(T, P), Km81+400 – Km81+660(T, P)”.

Thus, by the end of 2024, the entire National Highway 54 through Vinh Long province will be paved with 100% asphalt concrete, ensuring safe and smooth travel for people.

Regarding the consideration of investment in upgrading and expanding National Highway 54 through Vinh Long province using public investment capital, the Ministry has sent its comments to the National Assembly Delegation of Vinh Long province.

The Ministry of Transport agrees with the proposal of voters of Vinh Long province on the necessity of investing in National Highway 54 through the province to meet transportation needs, support local socio-economic development, in accordance with the road network planning and has assigned Project Management Board 7 to carry out investment preparation work for the project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 54 through Vinh Long and Tra Vinh provinces.

However, due to resource difficulties, it is not possible to allocate capital to invest in National Highway 54 in the period of 2021 - 2025. The Ministry of Transport has noted the voters' recommendations. In the process of developing a medium-term public investment plan for the period of 2026 - 2030, based on the ability to balance resources and the principles of capital allocation according to regulations, the Ministry of Transport will consider investing in National Highway 54 soon.
