On December 31, the People's Committee of Trieu Phong district (Quang Tri province) confirmed that the locality had barricaded the passageway through the old An Mo bridge (Trieu Long commune, Trieu Phong district) because the bridge had deteriorated.
The old An Mo bridge crosses the Thach Han River, connecting the main road from Ai Tu town (Trieu Phong district) to many communes of this district. The small bridge has shown many damages after a long time of operation, but it receives many heavy vehicles every day, so the locality has proposed to the People's Committee of Quang Tri province to close the old An Mo bridge.
Mr. Vu Thanh Cong - Vice Chairman of Trieu Phong District People's Committee said that from 9:00 a.m. on December 29, the old bridge was closed, and vehicles will travel through the new An Mo bridge just a few meters away. However, because the two bridge abutments have not been completed, the road surface south of the new An Mo bridge is rough, slippery and has a large slope, making it very difficult for vehicles to travel, causing traffic safety problems.
"The district has requested relevant units to repair the bridge so that vehicles can travel through the new An Mo bridge safely," informed Mr. Vu Thanh Cong.
According to the Quang Tri Province Construction Investment Project Management Board, on the morning of December 31, the construction unit came to survey and on January 1, 2025, temporary repairs will be carried out at the location of the 2 new An Mo bridge piers to facilitate people's travel.
“Because there is no land for construction and some households have not been cleared, the two bridge piers have not been completed. When the land is cleared, the unit will complete the project,” said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Director of the Quang Tri Province Construction Investment Project Management Board.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper had many articles, reflecting the project of the road connecting An Mo bridge to the General Secretary Le Duan Memorial Site with a total investment of 160 billion VND, including An Mo bridge and a road at both ends of the bridge, 2.3 km long. After 12 years (2021), An Mo bridge was completed, but the bridge abutment was not finished because some households had not relocated. Therefore, although it was put into use in 2021, vehicles continued to circulate on the old An Mo bridge.
