Accelerate the construction of the final intersection on the 34 trillion VND expressway

ĐÔNG GIANG |

Despite the lack of materials, construction units are still making efforts to accelerate the progress of the Tri Binh - Dung Quat intersection, the last intersection on the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway.

After restarting the construction of the Tri Binh - Dung Quat intersection of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway in May 2025, the investor is expected to complete it in December 2025. However, to date, the project has not been completed. The investor, Vietnam Expressway Corporation, is directing the contractor to overcome difficulties to accelerate progress.

Although it has entered early April 2026, the construction progress of the Tri Binh - Dung Quat intersection has only reached about 70% of the volume. After basically completing the most difficult stage, which is handling subsidence due to weak geological foundation in some locations, the project has encountered obstacles due to lack of materials such as soil and rock for construction, along with high oil prices, hindering progress. However, the contractor is still making efforts to mobilize machinery and manpower to implement unfinished items.

Mr. Nguyen Cao Huy, representative of Luc Viet Construction Joint Stock Company, said: "Since receiving the bid, the unit has mobilized maximum manpower and resources to speed up progress. However, during construction, prolonged rainy weather caused many difficulties. In addition, the increase in oil prices also affected input material sources, causing many obstacles to material gathering.

The 1.7 km long connecting route to the expressway at the Tri Binh - Dung Quat intersection has been filled with crushed stone at the access road by the contractor, with a volume of about 3,000 m3. According to the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway Project Management Board, the biggest difficulty currently is the lack of material supply, especially embankment soil and rocks. If this problem is not resolved soon, it will greatly affect the project progress.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Thao, representative of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway Project Management Board, said: "We hope that the local government will create conditions to support contractors, especially in connecting with soil mines, stone mines and transportation units, in order to ensure material sources to accelerate progress and soon complete the intersection.

The cost to complete the Tri Binh - Dung Quat intersection is about 100 billion VND. Faced with existing difficulties, the investor is making efforts to remove them step by step, striving to complete construction in the second quarter of this year to put the intersection into operation after many years of unfinished construction.

From September 2018, the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway (Km0+000 - Km139+204), passing through Da Nang and Quang Nam, with a total investment of more than 34,000 billion VND, has officially opened to traffic on the entire route. The project is invested by Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC).

Tri Binh - Dung Quat intersection is the final intersection out of a total of 8 intersections on the entire Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway, and is also one of the most important intersections of the route.
