Quang Ninh spends over 2,500 billion VND on site clearance for a high-speed railway project worth over 5 billion USD

Quang Ninh - The Hanoi - Quang Ninh express railway project is about 120km long, of which the section passing through Quang Ninh province is more than 39km long.

According to Mr. Pham Duc Thang - Chief of Office of Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee - to clear the site to implement this high-speed railway project, Quang Ninh province will spend more than 2,500 billion VND to compensate and clear the site for the section passing through the area.

The Hanoi - Quang Ninh high-speed railway line is designed according to double-track standards, 1,435 mm gauge, electrified for the entire route. The starting point is at the National Exhibition Fair Center (Co Loa), Dong Anh commune, Hanoi city; the ending point is at the public park area, Tuan Chau ward, Quang Ninh province, opposite Vinhomes Ha Long Xanh urban area.

In which, the section passing through Hanoi City is about 16 km long; the section passing through Bac Ninh province is about 32 km long; the section passing through Hai Phong City is about 33 km long; the section passing through Quang Ninh province is about 39 km long. The total investment is 147.370 billion VND (about 5 billion USD), excluding about 10,270 billion VND of site clearance compensation costs guaranteed by the state budget.

The design speed of the main route is 350 km/h, the section passing through Hanoi has a design speed of 120 km/h.

According to the design, the section located in Quang Ninh province is more than 39km long, passing through wards and communes: Mao Khe, Hoang Que, Yen Tu, Uong Bi, Dong Mai, Ha An and Tuan Chau of Quang Ninh.

There are 5 stations on the route, including: Co Loa, Gia Binh, Ninh Xa, Yen Tu and Ha Long Xanh; A depot is located at Ha Long Xanh station, Tuan Chau ward.

According to the design, the entire route is about 120 km long, of which about 4 km is elevated on the ground; the remaining 116 km is elevated, structured with viaducts, overflow bridges, road overpasses, and railway overpasses.

To build a series of viaducts, overflow bridges, road overpasses, railway overpasses..., there will be more than 3,400 bridge piers on the entire route. In which, the section through Hanoi has 455 bridge piers; the section through Bac Ninh province has about 909 bridge piers; the section through Hai Phong City has about 938 bridge piers; the section through Quang Ninh province has about 1,108 bridge piers.

After completion, it is expected that in 2028, the travel time from Hanoi - Ha Long on this railway line will be only about 30 minutes; frequency of 30 minutes/trip, expected output of more than 2 million passengers/year in 2028 and over 15 million passengers in 2050.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the Hanoi - Quang Ninh high-speed railway project is expected to be held on April 12, 2026 at the location planned for the construction of Ha Long Xanh station, in Tuan Chau ward.
