According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction on February 4, the Ho Tram - Long Thanh International Airport urban expressway project is more than 42km long.
The road is designed with a minimum of 4 lanes, speed from 100 - 120 km/h, with a road boundary of 74.5m wide.
The total investment of the project is estimated at about 51,000 billion VND, proposed by the enterprise to be implemented according to the public-private partnership (PPP) method, BT contract (build - transfer).
Long Thanh International Airport is expected to be put into operation at the end of 2026, people from the Southeast and Southwest provinces; Long Hai, Phuoc Hai, Ho Tram tourist areas... to the airport will have to go through many densely populated areas, traffic speed is not high due to high traffic density.
Therefore, the new expressway connecting from Long Thanh to Ho Tram is necessary, contributing to completing the traffic network, helping to strongly develop the tourism service industry.
In parallel with the new project, 3 key expressways connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Long Thanh airport are also being upgraded and completed.
The current backbone is the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway, put into operation in 2015. This route helps shorten travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai, Vung Tau and northern provinces.
However, after nearly a decade of operation, the expressway has become overloaded, often congested during holidays and Tet.
Currently, the 21km section from Ring Road 2 to the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway intersection is being expanded from 6 to 10 lanes, with a total capital of more than 16,300 billion VND. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, and Long Thanh bridge will be completed by the beginning of 2027.
In addition, the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, more than 57km long, plays a strategic horizontal axis, connecting the Mekong Delta with Long Thanh airport. Currently, the project has completed about 55km, of which 30km has been put into operation. The entire route is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Meanwhile, the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, nearly 54km long, with a scale of 4 - 6 lanes, with a total capital of about 17,800 billion VND, is being accelerated. The project is expected to partially open to traffic in April and fully complete in mid-2026.
When put into operation, this route will shorten the travel time from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau from about 120 minutes to 70 minutes, and at the same time increase the transport capacity of passengers and goods to Long Thanh airport.
