At noon on October 7, the Traffic Police Patrol Team, under the Traffic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police, set up a checkpoint to check and handle students violating traffic laws at the intersection of Nguyen Binh Khiem - Nguyen Huu Canh (District 1).
At around 11:40 a.m., the task force discovered G.M (Thu Duc City) driving a motorbike under 50cc through the checkpoint, so they asked him to stop for inspection.
After checking G.M’s relevant documents, the traffic police determined that G.M was not qualified to drive a motorbike under 50cc. At that time, G.M said that he was a 10th grade student at a high school in District 3.
When the traffic police announced that he was not old enough to drive, G.M was surprised and said he had never known about this regulation before.
At this time, the traffic police explained to G.M that he must be 16 years old or older to be allowed to drive a vehicle under 50cc. According to the date of birth on his ID card, G.M was not old enough to drive.
"I was a bit surprised, I thought I would be driving this car. After today, I will learn from my experience and ask my parents to take me to school or ride a bike," said G.M.
For the above violation, G.M will have its vehicle temporarily impounded and be given a warning. At the same time, the traffic police will issue a fine of 1.4 million VND to G.M's parents for handing over the vehicle to an unqualified driver.
Another case is B.T (District 4), who was fined by the traffic police for driving a motorbike over 50cc without being qualified to drive.
B.T said he is an 11th grade student at a high school near the checkpoint. "I have only been using this bike to go to school for about a month now. Last school year, I used an electric bike but it broke down. This school year, my parents bought me this old bike to go to school. The bike cost more than 2 million VND," B.T said.
For this violation, B.T had his vehicle temporarily impounded and was given a warning. At the same time, the traffic police issued a fine of 1.4 million VND to the vehicle owner for giving the vehicle to an unqualified driver.
