Hanoi adjusts Van Cao road barriers to construct metro line No. 5

Hanoi adjusts the barricade plan on Van Cao street to serve the construction of Quan Ngua station on metro line No. 5.

The barrier plan serving the construction of station S1 (Quan Ngua station) of urban railway line No. 5 on Van Cao street has been adjusted to minimize the impact on traffic in the area.

According to Construction Permit No. 302/GPTC-SXD issued by the Hanoi Department of Construction, the new barrier area will not occupy the entire road surface on the Quan Ngua stadium side as previously planned. Instead, the construction area is arranged at the median strip and part of the road with a length of about 476m, width of 20m.

A noteworthy point is that the new plan still ensures most of the road surface for vehicles to travel. Accordingly, the direction from Van Cao to Nguyen Chi Thanh maintains 3 lanes with a width of about 10.25m, while the direction from Van Cao to Ho Tay has 2 lanes with a width of about 7m.

The expected construction time is from June 18, 2026 to April 15, 2027. During this time, vehicles passing through the area must comply with the sign system, limiting the maximum speed to 40km/h and not stopping or parking within the barrier area.

To reduce traffic pressure, functional agencies will organize turnaround points in the Lieu Giai area, and at the same time coordinate with traffic police and related units to regulate and divert traffic during peak hours.

In addition to ensuring traffic, environmental protection and construction safety are also required to be strictly implemented. Contractors must install a dust-reducing misting system around the construction site; the transportation of oversized and overweight materials and equipment is only allowed to be carried out from 10 pm to 5 am the next morning to limit the impact on people's travel.

According to the plan, before official deployment, the barrier plan will be organized for trial operation for 3 days to assess the reality, thereby making timely adjustments if inadequacies arise.

The adjustment of the barrier plan is expected to both ensure the construction progress of metro line No. 5 and minimize the risk of traffic congestion on Van Cao - Lieu Giai road, one of the areas with high traffic volume in Hanoi.
