On March 17, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters recorded that on National Highway 91B (QL91B) passing through Mai Dam town, Chau Thanh district, Hau Giang province, there were many potholes, peeling road surfaces and crushed stone, posing a potential risk to traffic safety for people.

Many households living along National Highway 91B said that although they have been patched by the management unit many times, they have peeled over time and deteriorated due to the impact of rain. Moreover, with a very high traffic density, the deterioration will become increasingly obvious over time.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Trinh (28 years old) - a roadside seller said that on hot days, she has to spray water many times to reduce dust. Dining tables and chairs must be cleaned continuously, and eating utensils must be covered with a towel 24/7. On rainy days, the water filled the potholes, posing a potential risk of traffic accidents.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thao (Chau Thanh district) said that this road section is very dangerous, requiring drivers to be very careful. Many accidents may occur due to rough road surfaces.

Recently, the Ministry of Construction said that according to the road network planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, National Highway91B is 162km long, with a scale of a level III road, from 2 to 4 lanes.
Of which, the section through Hau Giang province is 8.6km long, and its current status is mainly new to meet the standards of a grade IV road. The Ministry of Construction has prepared a Pre-Feasibility Study Report for the project to upgrade and renovate 3 national highways (53, 62, 91B) in the Mekong Delta, with WB loan capital (project).
The Ministry has submitted to the Prime Minister for approval the investment policy for the above 3 national highways in document No. 12/TTr-BGTVT dated February 10, 2025.

In which, National Highway 91B section passing through Hau Giang province is expected to be renovated and upgraded to meet the standards of a grade III road. The Ministry of Construction said that after the Prime Minister approves the investment policy, the Ministry will focus on implementing the next steps.
The Ministry will speed up the negotiation process to sign a loan agreement by the end of 2025. After signing, the Ministry of Construction plans to start the project in early 2026 and complete it by the end of 2027.
