According to the latest directive document of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, the Department of Construction is assigned to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to implement investment preparation procedures for the Overpass Construction Project at the intersection No. 1 (Mau Than - 3 Thang 2 - Tran Hung Dao) and intersection No. 4 (Nguyen Van Linh - 3 Thang 2) in Ninh Kieu District.
The decision was made after the Department of Finance submitted a proposal to the City People's Committee to assign the Department of Construction to carry out this important task.
The total estimated investment for the two overpasses is 452 billion VND. Of which, the overpass at intersection No. 1 is about 233 billion VND, the overpass at intersection No. 4 is about 219 billion VND. The project is expected to be completed within 5 years, from 2025 to 2030.
The leader of the Department of Construction of Can Tho City said that after receiving the official directive document, the Department will urgently take the next steps. First of all, it is necessary to hire a qualified consulting unit to research and propose optimal design options for each overpass.
After the design plan is completed, the Department will submit a report to the Appraisal Council for consideration and comments. Finally, submit to the City People's Committee for approval of the official investment policy, creating a legal basis for implementing the detailed project implementation steps, including survey, technical design, contractor selection and construction.
The construction of overpasses at these two intersections is expected to bring practical results in ensuring long-term traffic connectivity, separating traffic flows straight out of the intersection; helping to effectively solve traffic congestion, which is a difficult problem in these two areas. In addition, the overpass works also promise to create a modern and synchronous landscape architectural highlight for the Can Tho urban center.
It is known that the construction project of these two overpasses is in phase 2 of the Investment Project for the construction, renovation and expansion of 5 key intersections in Ninh Kieu district, approved by the People's Committee of Can Tho City in November 2023, with a total investment of more than 1,196 billion VND.
Phase 1 of the project focuses on expanding intersections at the same level, controlling with traffic lights and arranging independent right turns; investing in items such as renovating and expanding intersections, sidewalks, trees, lighting, traffic lights, fire prevention and fighting, rainwater drainage systems, wastewater drainage systems.
Currently, the People's Committee of Ninh Kieu District (investor) is urgently implementing the construction of intersection No. 1 (Mau Than - 3 Thang 2 - Tran Hung Dao) and intersection No. 4 (Nguyen Van Linh - 3 Thang 2).
Ninh Kieu District has been allocated 300 billion VND to implement the project and is focusing on site clearance. For intersection No. 1, more than 1/3 of households have handed over the land. Intersection No. 4 has been handed over by more than half of households. The remaining intersections (numbers 2, 3 and 5) will be implemented next.
The synchronous implementation of both phases of the project is expected to create a smooth and modern transportation system for the central area of Can Tho City, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of the city in the coming years.
The 5 renovated intersections include: intersection No. 1 (Mau Than - 3 February - Tran Hung Dao); intersection No. 2 (Mau Than - Nguyen Van Cu - Vo Van Kiet); intersection No. 3 (Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Van Cu); intersection No. 4 (Nguyen Van Linh - 3 February) and intersection No. 5 (Nguyen Van Linh - 30/4).
