On February 4, the Department of Transport of Quang Tri province confirmed that on February 3, the Department announced a temporary suspension of receiving applications for issuance, renewal and re-issuance of Driver's Licenses from February 3 until further notice.
The reason for stopping accepting applications for issuing, renewing and reissuing driver's licenses is due to an error in the driver's license management software system of the Vietnam Road Administration.
Accordingly, when choosing to print a driver's license with a term, it prints a driver's license without a term and vice versa; when choosing to print only 1 class A driver's license, it prints both a car driver's license and an unlimited one; when choosing to print and exchange a C1 driver's license, it prints a class B driver's license...
After discovering the above error, the Department of Transport of Quang Tri province sent an IT specialist to directly contact the Vietnam Road Administration to handle it. However, the driver's license management software continues to have system errors, making it impossible to issue and change licenses.
Mr. Tran Trung Thong - Head of the Department of Transport, Vehicles and Drivers Management, Quang Tri Province Department of Transport - said that for cases where the driver's license is valid for 1 month or more, people are asked to wait for the software to operate stably again before coming to do the procedure to change it; for cases where the driver's license is about to expire, the department receiving the application will take a portrait photo and save it on the registration office software. After the above errors are fixed, it will be promptly resolved for the people.
For applications for renewal and re-issuance (directly and online) that have been received, the Provincial Department of Transport will be responsible for processing and ensuring the rights of the people. However, the time limit for returning the driver's license may be longer than prescribed.
"This is an unexpected incident due to a software error from the Vietnam Road Administration," said Mr. Tran Trung Thong.
