Roundabouts in Gia Lai will be adjusted to ensure traffic

A roundabout on National Highway 19 in An Phu Commune, Pleiku City, Gia Lai Province, designed to be 15m wide, will be reduced to 10m to ensure traffic safety.

Recently, Gia Lai voters proposed to design a drainage culvert on National Highway 19 through Pleiku city and Dak Po district, through village 1, An Phu commune, Chu A commune, Pleiku city and the section from Km83+700 to Km83+900, Ta Ly bridge area, Dak Po district.

In addition, voters proposed to reduce the size of the traffic island (roundabout) between National Highway 19 and Pleiku bypass in An Phu commune.

According to voters, the current size of traffic islands is very large, affecting the circulation of vehicles.

Responding to this issue, on September 23, the Ministry of Transport said that according to the approved technical design documents, at the intersection between National Highway 19 and the Pleiku city bypass, a roundabout with a radius of 15m is arranged, combined with a system of signs and paint lines, and the contractor has completed the construction.

However, based on the opinions of the WB (donor), the Traffic Safety Assessment Consultant and relevant agencies, Project Management Board 2 adjusted the design to reduce the size of the traffic island from a radius of 15m to 10m and adjusted the system of marking lines to suit the actual operating conditions of the area.

Currently, the contractor is carrying out roadbed excavation to reduce the size of the roundabout according to the adjusted design documents and is expected to be completed in October 2024.

Regarding the petition of voters in Gia Lai province about the project on National Highway 19, the Ministry of Transport said that the above contents are related to Packages XL03 and XL04B under the Project to Enhance Traffic Connectivity in the Central Highlands, with WB loans to upgrade and expand National Highway 19.

The project has so far basically completed 7/8 packages, the remaining package under construction is Package XL01 in Binh Dinh province, which is being urgently directed by the Ministry of Transport to Project Management Board 2 (Investor) and related units to speed up the progress, and soon put the project into operation and use to serve the travel needs of the people.

Regarding the proposal to design drainage culverts on National Highway 19, the Ministry of Transport said: For the section Km83+700 - Km83+900 (Ta Ly bridge area), Dak Po district: According to the report of Project Management Board 21, during the construction process, the telecommunications unit deployed the construction of an optical cable system along National Highway 19 (this work is not within the scope of the National Highway 19 Upgrade and Expansion Project), digging a residential crossroad broke the drainage systems of the people connected to the old longitudinal ditch system along National Highway 19; at the same time, causing soil and rocks to fall into the old longitudinal ditch system and not yet cleared, leading to affecting the drainage of the area.

After reviewing the actual situation on the ground and working with the local authorities, Dak Po District People's Committee and the People's Committees of related communes, Project Management Board 2 has directed the contractor of the National Highway 19 Upgrade and Expansion Project to clear and dispose of materials and install additional broken drainage pipes, and clear the drainage lines of the old drainage system of the road and area.

Currently, the contractor has completed the construction and ensured drainage for households around this area.

Regarding the section through village 1, Chu A commune, Pleiku city: According to the approved design documents, a drainage system has been designed at this location and the contractor is currently implementing the construction, expected to be completed in October 2024.

However, at the location of the A1 bridgehead of An My bridge (left of the route), there is still 01 household that has not agreed with the compensation and support plan, so it is not possible to organize the relocation of the power line and it affects the construction of the drainage system at this location.

Therefore, we request that voters of Gia Lai province pay attention to giving opinions to local authorities to strengthen propaganda and mobilization work to households to promptly hand over the site for the contractor to implement and ensure the completion schedule of the project.
