On February 16 (ie, the 29th of Tet), the traffic safety and order situation nationwide recorded positive changes when traffic accidents decreased sharply in all three criteria compared to the same period. Functional forces handled more than 9,400 violations, mainly related to alcohol concentration and speed.
According to reports from functional forces, on the 29th of Tet, there were 50 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 28 people and injuring 31 people. All accidents occurred on roads; no incidents were recorded in the railway and waterway sectors.
Compared to the same Tet holiday in 2025, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 15 cases (down 23.08%), the number of deaths decreased by 10 people (down 26.32%) and the number of injuries decreased by 14 people (down 31.11%).
Although it was the penultimate peak day of the Tet holiday, the traffic situation in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and adjacent localities was basically ensured. In Hanoi, there were no serious prolonged traffic jams; while in Ho Chi Minh City, traffic at the city's gateways was stable, and vehicles circulated smoothly on key highways.
Implementing the peak period of ensuring traffic order and safety and serving important political events, the National Traffic Police force mobilized the highest number of troops. During the day, local police inspected and handled 9,464 cases of violations on roads; temporarily seized 89 cars, 2,759 motorbikes; revoked 249 driver's licenses, and deducted points from driver's licenses for 1,831 cases.
The main violations include: alcohol concentration violations (2,584 cases), speeding violations (2,228 cases), drug-related violations (3 cases), carrying more people than prescribed (42 cases).
Specifically on National Highway 1A, functional forces controlled more than 8,500 vehicles, made records and handled 1,227 violations; deducted points, revoked driver's licenses in 226 cases, and temporarily seized 219 vehicles. Compared to the immediately preceding day, the number of vehicles being controlled and the amount of expected fines both decreased.
In the following days of the Binh Ngo Tet holiday 2026, functional forces will continue to strengthen patrols and controls to close the area, focusing on key traffic routes to ensure absolute safety for people and transportation activities during Tet.
