The above information was announced by Mr. Tran Quang Lam - Acting Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction - at the Ho Chi Minh City socio-economic meeting on the morning of June 3.
According to Mr. Lam, Vingroup has proposed to be the investor of this metro line under the form of public-private partnership (PPP) and has been assigned by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to study and prepare project proposal documents.
The project will be implemented with investor's own capital and mobilized from other legal sources, not using the city budget.
In case the proposal is not approved, the investor must bear all research costs and related risks.
Ho Chi Minh City requires Vingroup to ensure the quality and completeness of the dossier in accordance with legal regulations.
Mr. Tran Quang Lam said that Vingroup Corporation is speeding up the preparation of investment proposal documents, if all goes well, the metro line to Can Gio can start construction in early 2026.
According to the preliminary proposal, the metro line is about 48.7 km long, starting from Nguyen Van Linh Street (the section between the intersection with Nguyen Thi Thap Street and Ly Phuc Man Street, Binh Thuan Ward, District 7), running along the Nguyen Luong Bang - Rung Sac routes and ending at the 39-hectare land adjacent to Can Gio Coastal Urban Tourism Area (Long Hoa Commune, Can Gio District).
The total estimated investment is about VND102,370 billion, equivalent to USD4.09 billion.
The metro line is oriented as a high-speed urban railway line, running entirely on elevated areas, designed as a double track, with a standard gauge of 1,435 mm, with a maximum speed of up to 250 km/h.
If implemented on schedule and with the proposed technology, the travel time from Phu My Hung area (District 7) to Can Gio coastal urban tourism area will only take about 16 minutes.
The metro line is also expected to serve 30,000 to 40,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
The metro line will have two depots (operating and maintenance stations), located in District 7 and Long Hoa commune (Can Gio).
This is one of the important infrastructure projects, associated with the development orientation of Can Gio coastal urban tourism area - a super project with a scale of over 2,870 hectares invested by Vingroup.
