In November 1996, the 10th session of the 9th National Assembly issued a Resolution to separate Ha Bac province to re-establish Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces. The two newly re-established provinces officially operated from January 1, 1997.
With the advantage of being in the key economic triangle of Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh and being the northeastern gateway of the capital, after nearly 30 years of establishment, Bac Ninh has had a breakthrough development, from a purely agricultural province to an industrial center with many targets in the leading group of the country.

In 1997, Bac Ninh's economic scale (GRDP) reached VND2,020 billion. In 2024, Bac Ninh's GRDP increased more than 100 times compared to 1997 to VND232.8 trillion, ranking 9th in the country.
In 1997, the industrial production value was 646 billion VND, ranking 10th out of 11 provinces and cities in the Red River Delta. Up to now, Bac Ninh province has 16 concentrated industrial parks approved by the Prime Minister, of which 12 have been put into operation. For many consecutive years, Bac Ninh has been the province with the leading industrial production scale in the country.
Bac Ninh attracts investment capital from 41 countries and territories, especially in the electronics sector and is a production base of many large economic groups in the world such as Samsung, Canon, Nokia, Amkor...
This province has also been at the top of the country for many consecutive years in terms of attracting foreign direct investment (FDI).

Meanwhile, Bac Giang is known as the new economic "star" of Vietnam, having continuously maintained a double-digit economic growth rate, leading the country from 2022 to present.
The scale of Bac Giang's economy is increasingly large, reaching 207 trillion VND in 2024, ranking 12th in the country.
In particular, industrial production is also identified as the main driving force of development.
To date, the Prime Minister has approved the establishment of 12 industrial parks in Bac Giang province with a total planning area of about 2,823 hectares.
Currently, Bac Giang's industrial parks attract 488 investment projects, including 373 FDI projects, 115 domestic direct investment projects (DDIs); the total converted investment capital reaches 10.6 billion USD.
According to the plan, by 2030, the whole Bac Giang province will have 29 industrial parks with a total area of 7,000 hectares.
