On November 27, the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee held a preliminary review of the implementation of Program No. 73-Ctr/TU of the Provincial Party Committee and the Directive of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee on strengthening the leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels on the exploitation of destroying aquatic resources in the province.
The Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee stated that after more than 1 year of implementing Program No. 73-CTr/TU, Party committees at all levels, authorities, the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations in the province have shown strong and synchronous leadership and direction, achieving important results. The management of fleet has been strengthened, there are no more "3 no" ships; the monitoring and supervision of fishing vessel activities at sea and at ports has been highly effective; the work of tracing the origin of aquatic products has been carried out seriously, without any errors; Law enforcement has been promoted from administrative sanctions to criminal prosecution, creating deterrence in the community; especially the application of information technology in the management and control of fishing vessels; long-term tasks on converting fishing vessels, protecting and developing aquatic resources have been deployed, contributing to protecting the marine ecosystem and improving livelihoods for fishermen.
However, some people, for immediate economic benefits, still deliberately exploit aquatic products violating foreign waters; many fishing vessels have been sold but have not been transferred, the owners of the vessels and fishing vessels are no longer in the locality, causing difficulties in management; fishing infrastructure has not been invested in and upgraded to match the actual needs in the locality.

The report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ca Mau province shows that up to now, 4,754/5,226 fishing vessels have issued fishing licenses, reaching 90.67%, while 472 vessels have expired fishing licenses, accounting for 9.33%; 3,137/3,616 fishing vessels have expired registration, reaching 86.75%, and 479 fishing vessels have expired registration, accounting for 13.25%; have made a list of fishing vessels whose fishing licenses have expired to monitor, manage, and grasp the current status; fully update 100% of the province's fishing vessel data on the VN-Fishbase software system and the Fishing Vessel Monitoring System; there are no "3 no" fishing vessels for monitoring and management.
Fishing vessels with a length of 15 meters or more have installed 24/7 journey monitoring equipment; warned and called for 1,616 fishing vessels operating near the border; notified and called for 36 fishing vessels crossing the border at sea to return to Vietnam's waters, opened records of the incident to verify, investigate and handle according to regulations; monitor and handle fishing vessels that lost connection signals offshore according to regulations.
The province regularly organizes inspections of the work of combating IUU fishing in key fishing localities; supports 100% of subscription fees for cruise monitoring services for 7,144 fishing vessels, with more than 7.5 billion VND.
For those who intentionally violated, Ca Mau resolutely handled and prosecuted 14 criminal cases (including cases related to fishing vessels violating foreign waters), organized 6 trials (4 mobile trials; 2 sessions at the Provincial People's Court), sentenced 23 defendants to a total of 133 years and 9 months in prison and 60 million VND.
The conference also raised difficulties in the process of implementing fishing control of fishing vessels such as: Deadline for regulating the registration of short-term fishing vessels; The sale of fishing vessels without declaration; Fishing vessels prosecuted abroad...
In the coming time, Ca Mau will resolutely handle all violations related to illegal fishing.
