In November 2012, at the Kim Thanh bridgehead (Lao Cai city), Lao Cai province held the opening ceremony of Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. II under the Lao Cai (Vietnam) - Ha Khau (China) pair.
This border gate is an important trade area as every day there are hundreds of import-export vehicles passing between the two countries.

Through research, in 2023, the total import-export turnover through Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. II will reach over 1 billion USD, in 2024 it will be over 2.2 billion USD.
On June 11, according to Lao Dong at Kim Thanh Border Gate, synchronous infrastructure investment helps this area become more complete with many wharves and warehouses for goods.
Through observation, freight vehicles passing through the import-export area were cleared quickly.
Around the border gate, many empty vehicles are ready for receiving and transporting goods to the consumption location.

At the end of 2024, the Lao Cai Economic Zone Management Board has officially put 5 import-export flows into operation at Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. II.
This helps improve customs clearance capacity for goods, shortening waiting time for vehicles when going to the other side of the border.
It is known that currently, the customs clearance capacity at Kim Thanh Border Gate meets the demand for 1,000 import-export vehicles/day.

According to statistics, during the holidays on April 30 and May 1, the authorities at Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. II (Kim Thanh Border Gate) carried out customs clearance procedures for 1,625 vehicles carrying import and export goods.
Mr. Duong Duc Trong (Lao Cai driver) shared: "This border gate area has been in operation for more than ten years, helping the Lao Cai economy develop a lot. We drivers hope that every day there will be more vehicles to "enter and exit" to have goods to transport, create more jobs and income.
