In order to urge investors and contractors to speed up the construction progress of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project, on May 29, Deputy Minister of Construction Pham Minh Ha and the working delegation inspected the two component projects of Can Tho - Hau Giang and Hau Giang - Ca Mau of the North - South expressway project in the East phase 2021-2025.

After checking, Deputy Minister Pham Minh Ha said that the completion of the Can Tho - Ca Mau highway at the end of 2025 is a very important goal, contributing to the goal of completing 3,000 km of the highway by 2025. More specifically, this is the last section of the North -South Expressway in the East.
Regarding the direction of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to complete the project by December 19, Deputy Minister Pham Minh Ha emphasized that to achieve this goal, units that have made efforts need to make more efforts, be more determined, overcome difficulties in materials, weather conditions, and complete on schedule.

The Deputy Minister of Construction said that currently, the South is entering the rainy season, so units must make efforts, uphold the spirit of responsibility, focus all resources, and resolutely construct to ensure the completion of the project.
"I fully share with the units about the difficulties of the project over a long period of time leading to delays, and now I have to speed up to compensate for the delayed progress. However, the completion of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project is a political task and a major goal. Therefore, the units must make efforts. We have no way back," Deputy Minister Pham Minh Ha stated.
The Deputy Minister of Construction requested the My Thuan Project Management Board to strengthen inspection and supervision of the implementation of contractors, especially for contractors at risk of being slow. Therefore, promptly transfer the volume or replace the contractor who does not meet the requirements, is not qualified or does not fulfill the progress commitment.

Mr. Tran Van Thi - Director of My Thuan Project Management Board - said that the total construction output of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project reached about 66.5% of the contract value.
The route has about 79km that need to be treated with weak soil according to the relocation plan. To date, contractors have mobilized about 15.4 million m3 of sand to complete the embankment of about 78km of the main route, reaching 99.4%. The units continue to mobilize about 1.3 million m3 of sand to serve the construction of intersections, connecting routes, and service roads.
Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway has 95 bridges, currently the contractors have completed the construction of 81 bridges. Of which, 12 large bridges are technically open to traffic, 9 bridges are preparing to collapse. It is expected that all bridges on the main route will be girded in June 2025.
Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway is divided into 2 component projects including the Can Tho - Hau Giang section and the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section invested by the My Thuan Project Management Board. The total investment is more than VND 27,500 billion, starting on January 1, 2023, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
