Green transformation is not just a trend
On May 5, at the Ministry of Construction headquarters, Xay Dung Newspaper organized the Workshop "Green building materials, sustainable development trend".

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh said that in the context of Vietnam promoting the transformation of the growth model towards green, developing a low-carbon economy, the Construction industry is facing the requirement to transform strongly and comprehensively.
According to the Deputy Minister, in this process, green buildings and green materials play a particularly important role because this is an industry that provides basic inputs for the development of infrastructure, urban areas, housing, industry and socio-economic projects. At the same time, this is also an area that uses a lot of resources and energy and is under great environmental and emission pressure.
Therefore, greening the construction materials industry is not just a trend, but has become an urgent requirement of development" - Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Sinh emphasized.
He added that many domestic building material products have gradually approached green certification systems, environmental certification and high technical requirements of the domestic, regional and international markets. This shows that developing green, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly building materials is no longer a simple incentive orientation but has gradually entered production practice and the market.
However, the green transformation process of the building materials industry still faces many difficulties such as high initial investment costs for technological innovation, increasing competitive pressure, while consumers are still used to using traditional materials, so the ability to absorb the market with green materials is not strong.
In addition, the system of standards and technical regulations for some new types of materials needs to be further improved; the mechanism to encourage and promote the development of green materials is not really strong enough. Access to green credit, investment incentives, tax incentives and financial tools to support green transformation are still issues of concern to many businesses.
According to the Deputy Minister of Construction, what the market needs at this time is not only the individual efforts of each business but a new institutional framework capable of leading investment, orienting consumption and screening new technologies and new products to improve competitiveness.

Stronger policies are needed for green materials to enter the supply chain
Assessing the role of green materials in forming sustainable architectural works today, Dr. Architect Phan Dang Son - Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Architects said that green architecture is developing strongly in the world and is a development criterion in the future when the community of developed countries has clearly recognized this.
According to him, in the world, green architecture is associated with health safety, while in Vietnam, from now on, it is necessary to start with policies, education and community spread to raise awareness. Green architecture ensures human health in the future and towards sustainable development.
Mr. Phan Dang Son said that green architecture is formed from 5 core elements including design to meet climate, green materials, energy - water efficiency, meeting a healthy environment and harmony with the landscape. In which, the green material platform is an important link.
On the business side, Mr. Duong Van Tu - Northern Business Director, Phuong Nam Sound and Heat Sealing Co., Ltd. (Phuong Nam Panel) said that the policies to promote green building materials in the past time are a correct and inevitable policy, creating a clear signal forcing businesses to look back at the entire value chain, from input materials, production technology to market approach.
Sharing about the company's strategy, Mr. Tu said that Phuong Nam Panel does not see this as pressure but as an opportunity to restructure the strategy. The company has proactively gone to the European market to invest in energy-saving and emission-reducing production technology; after mastering the technology, it has developed heat-insulating, sound-insulating, environmentally friendly panel product lines and positioned the brand in the direction of "green material solutions - effective - economical".
Mr. Duong Van Tu said that if in the coming time policies are more specific, especially investment incentives, green credit and standardization, Vietnam's green building materials industry will enhance its position, not only serving the domestic market but also deeply participating in the global supply chain.
