Slow operation
The Thuan An fishing port construction project combined with a storm shelter area has been under construction since October 2020 with an investment of VND220 billion from compensation capital from Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation Limited related to marine environmental incidents in the Central region, invested by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thua Thien - Hue province.
According to the plan, the project started in 2019 and is expected to be completed in 2021. However, due to delays in progress, the project must be completed by the end of 2023.
Currently, the Thuan An fishing port project has been handed over to the Hue City Fishing Port Management Board for management. After completion, Thuan An port is capable of meeting a minimum capacity of 20,000 tons/year, ensuring EU technical criteria, and being able to anchor and avoid storms for 500 ships with a length of 6m or more.

According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, after taking over the port area from January 2024, the Hue City Fishing Port Management Board was slow to put the new Thuan An port into operation.
The main reason is that the procedures for announcing the opening of the port have not been completed. During the handling of this procedure, specialized agencies discovered that although the project has been carried out since 2019, there has been no decision to allocate land and water surface to this area.
To overcome this, the Hue City Fishing Port Management Board has hired a specialized unit to conduct measurements, determine the current status and area of port land and water surface. The paperwork was sent to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment for appraisal and handling, then submitted to the competent authority to complete the work of announcing the port opening.
Not used yet is broken
On February 5, 2025, the People's Committee of Hue City announced the decision to open a type II fishing port for Thuan An fishing port. According to the representative of the Thuan An Fishing Port Management Board, with planned functional areas, the unit is calling on businesses to invest in activities providing fishing logistics services such as gasoline, soft drinks, stone factory, fish classification and freezing factory.
A representative of the Port Management Board informed that many fishing vessels have anchored at the new fishing port. In the coming time, all business and production activities will be transferred from the old fishing port to the new fishing port.

However, although the project has just been handed over, some project items have begun to show signs of deterioration, such as toilets, generator laoys and operating areas, with subsidence and cracking in walls and foundations.
According to Lao Dong Newspaper, some areas of the yard and sidewalk were also damaged, with peeling bricks, cracks, and underdeveloped trees. Many trees died. In the toilet area, the mirrors were broken, the water pots were covered with dusty, shabby soil.
In addition, the warehouse's windows were broken by some people, and the Port Management Board had to temporarily cover them with corrugated iron. The fence behind the port's toilet area has been broken, the concrete and steel components are deformed, leaving large holes.
A representative of the Thuan An Fishing Port Management Board explained that the construction work on the muddy soil has been leveled and because the project still has a warranty, the construction unit will repair these damages.
