Earlier that morning, fishing boat QNg 95046 TS had an engine failure and could not be repaired, so it drifted freely at sea in rough sea conditions. The captain of QNg 95046 TS sent out a distress signal.
At that time, Navy ship 417 was on patrol and control duty in the Phu Quy island area, Binh Thuan province, and received orders to assist and tow ship QNg 95046 TS at a location about 2 nautical miles from this island.
Overcoming strong winds of level 5 and level 6 due to rough seas, ship 417 approached the fishing boat with broken engine and towed it safely to the island. The commander of ship 417 completed the procedures to hand over the boat to Phu Quy Border Guard Station.
