Once bustling, now the market is deserted and sluggish
Located right in the center of Da Nang, Hoa Cuong wholesale market is the largest agricultural product business area in the Central region, supplying hundreds of tons of vegetables, tubers, and fruits to the city and neighboring areas every day. With an area of about 20,000m2 and more than 400 small traders, this place used to be very bustling. However, recently, many stalls have had to close, and trading activities have become sluggish and deserted compared to before.
Having been attached to the market for many years, Ms. Truong Thi Kim Bang could not help but feel sorry when looking at her business establishment becoming increasingly dilapidated. Talking about the difficult business situation in the rainy and storm season, Ms. Bang angrily said: "Just a heavy rain fall and water leaks from the roof, pouring directly into the booth, causing the entire business area and agricultural products to be soaked". Agricultural products, which are extremely sensitive to the weather, are now not carefully covered, making the risk of damage even higher, pushing small traders into a difficult situation.
When asked about her wishes in the coming time, Ms. Bang expressed her earnest desire: "We small traders really hope that the government will soon deploy the construction of a new, more spacious market, because the infrastructure here is too old, seriously degraded and no longer ensures safe business conditions.
Expectation of a modern market network
To thoroughly solve the overload and degradation of Hoa Cuong wholesale market and meet the increasing trade needs, Da Nang city has been and is promoting the Hoa Phuoc wholesale market project. At the end of June, Da Nang City People's Committee issued a decision approving the land use right auction plan at this project, currently located in Hoa Xuan ward.
According to the approved plan, the land plot put up for auction has a total area of up to 298,575m2 (more than 30ha), planned for public use to build a wholesale market. The land plot is bordered to the North by Nam Ky Khoi Nghia street, directly bordered to the West by National Highway 1A, bordered to the South by the planned road connecting National Highway 1A through the Ngu Hanh Son area and bordered to the East by the Cai River. The State will apply the form of land lease with one-time payment for the entire lease term, with the land use term set at 50 years from the date of issuance of the lease decision.
The Hoa Phuoc Wholesale Market project has a total expected investment capital of about 1,620 billion VND, entirely mobilized from non-budget capital sources of investors. It is expected that the auction event will take place in the third or fourth quarter of 2026. The expected starting price is 1,798.132 VND/m2 and this price does not include costs related to ground leveling as well as synchronous investment in technical infrastructure.
After winning the auction, the investor will be responsible for implementing the project according to the detailed plan at a scale of 1/500, with implementation progress within 36 months.
Da Nang will also form a specialized wholesale market network, including Tho Quang seafood market, Hoa Phuoc agricultural product market and a series of other agricultural product markets in Dai Loc, Thang Binh. In addition, 89 people's markets will be renovated, prioritizing capital injection into large symbolic markets such as Con market, Dong Da market or Hoa Khanh market.
