Metro Line 01 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) has just been put into operation in Ho Chi Minh City, the first metro line in the country to deploy electronic payment methods for passengers. Accordingly, passengers do not need to go to the ticket counter to buy tickets in cash, just need to use a NAPAS card, Mastercard card or scan the QR card with MOMO e-wallet account to pay at the ticket gate conveniently, quickly and safely.
After more than 2 months of operation, metro line No. 1 has served a total of 5,146,878 passengers, an average of about 353 passengers/train, 1.81 times higher than the initial forecast.
During the same period, the route has carried out 14,576 trains out of a total of 14,524 as planned, reaching 100.4% of the number of completed trips. The above figures show the enthusiasm of the majority of people for this new and modern type of public transport of the city.
In particular, the utilities from electronic payment methods have also contributed to bringing initial efficiency and encouraging the habit of using public transport of people.
In order to further spread the benefits of cashless payment habits in general, NAPAS card payment when traveling on metro line 01 in particular, Vietnam National Payment Joint Stock Company (NAPAS) will organize a gift giving program for all passengers using NAPAS card payment at An Phu station and the City Theater station.
Passengers after being instructed by NAPAS staff at the station to use NAPAS cards will have the opportunity to receive a surprise gift in beautiful "blind bags". More than 1,000 gifts will be given to customers during the 02 days of implementing the program (09.3-10.3.2025).
Recently, Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC1) has coordinated with NAPAS, Sacombank (as a payment bank) and banks in the NAPAS system to deploy the payment method by NAPAS card on all stages of metro line 01 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien).
To date, 25 banks have participated in providing services to people including BIDV, Agribank, TPBank, SHB, BVBank, VietBank, SeABank, NamABank, Vietcombank, Wooribank, Techcombank, VIB, NCB, VietABank, Bao Viet Bank, PBVN, Kienlongbank, Saigonbank, Bac A Bank, Eximbank, MB, ACB, OCB, Vietinbank, Sacombank. NAPAS cardholders of these banks can now make card-based payments directly at the ticket gates of metro stations 01 to make trips.
Payment is extremely simple and easy. Just tap the NAPAS card on the control device at the entrance (tap-in) and exit (tap-out), the ticket purchase amount will be deducted directly to the customer's bank account at the time the customer touches the card at the exit gate of the station.
In the coming time, NAPAS plans to continue to improve service quality, while expanding connections with many banks in the system, aiming for more than 60 million NAPAS cardholders to be able to conveniently use them every time they take the metro.
As a national retail payment infrastructure provider, in recent years, NAPAS has actively contributed to the modernization of the public transport payment system.
It can be said that the application of using bank cards instead of ticket cards to travel on metro line 01 has laid the foundation for the development of interconnected cashless payments between sectors and sectors of the economy.
