Zimbabwe is doing everything it can to join BRICS, the country's top diplomat said.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Zimbabwe Amon Murwira informed after his visit to Russia that Zimbabwe is doing everything possible to join the BRICS group.

In an interview with ZBC, he pointed out that Zimbabwe is aiming to cooperate with groups like BRICS to find ways to develop the domestic economy.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Amon Murwira said that Zimbabwe's constitution emphasizes that the country is not only following inter-africanism but also must participate in progressive groups that are beneficial to the country's socio-economic development and promote peace in the world. Peace is strengthened through economic development.

He also noted that Zimbabwe can learn from Russia how to find local solutions to local challenges.

Minister Murwira shared: "What we have done with the Russian Federation, as well as with many other countries, is to work together to promote development capacity. As a ministry, our mission is to connect Zimbabwe's domestic environment with the international environment through cooperation in the fields of education, engineering, science and technology. This is the only way we can boost production as desired. And only when production is boosted can commercial activities take place".
