PNJ shares are white on the seller side when legal risks are removed

After relieving concerns related to legal risks, PNJ shares are having consecutive ceiling increase sessions.

On the stock market, PNJ shares of Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company are at the center of attention when recording two consecutive ceiling increase sessions. That was in the trading session on August 21st and continued to increase to the ceiling in the first session of the week on August 24th, bringing the market price to 42,650 VND/share with a matched order volume of nearly half a million units and a ceiling buy order surplus of more than 11 million units.

According to the analysis report of ACBS Securities Company, the positive development of PNJ shares may stem from the fact that the initial investigation results have clarified the separation between PNJ's operations and the violations of related individuals.

ACBS believes that PNJ's confirmation of having complete diamond import records, strictly controlling the import and distribution process, and not putting the diamonds under investigation into the retail system may help reduce concerns about legal risks. This information is also expected to support businesses in restoring customer and investor confidence, while reducing liquidity pressure arising from product acquisition activities.

In Q2/2026, PNJ recorded an estimated provision of 865 billion VND related to product repurchase transactions arising after the closing date of reporting data. According to ACBS, the provision is determined on the principle of maximum caution, based on the possibility of the greatest possible loss and available information at the time of preparing financial statements. This securities company believes that the additional provision in the following quarters may be lower, even if PNJ does not need to continue provisioning.

Before the ceiling increase session on August 21, PNJ shares had decreased by 36% since the incident occurred. On August 21, this code traded at 39,900 VND/share, corresponding to a P/E slide of about 7 times for 12 months, lower than the three-year moving average of 14.4 times. PNJ's P/B ratio was 1.5 times, while the three-year moving average reached 2.8 times.

Although the valuation has decreased sharply, ACBS is currently temporarily suspending the ranking for PNJ shares and has not yet released the target price. This securities company said it may re-evaluate the PNJ code in subsequent reports, as the separation between the enterprise and the violations of related individuals becomes clearer, and PNJ has made a significant provision for product repurchase activities.

Also in the past week, two foreign fund groups have continuously increased their ownership in Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company to over 5%, attracting market attention. According to the announcement, T. Rowe Price fund group bought an additional 525,300 PNJ shares on August 13, thereby increasing the ownership ratio to 5.07% and officially becoming a major shareholder. Just one day later, it was Sprucegrove fund group's turn to buy about 1.6 million PNJ shares, bringing the ownership ratio to 5.04%. Thus, in just two consecutive sessions, two international investment organizations have both exceeded the 5% threshold at PNJ.

These transactions cannot conclude about specific investment goals, target prices or the views of the two organizations on PNJ. Stock purchases may also be in different portfolios, funds or investment strategies that outside investors do not have sufficient information about. But from a capital market perspective, the appearance of organizations like T. Rowe Price and Sprucegrove is still a noteworthy sign.
