Luc Yen commune, Lao Cai province (formerly belonging to Yen Bai) has long been known as a land rich in mineral resources, especially famous for its gemstone and white marble mines.
With large reserves, beautiful colors and high purity, white marble here not only serves the building materials industry but also becomes an important raw material for the production of high-grade tile stone, fine art stone and calcium carbonate powder (CaCO3) serving many domestic and export industries.
Thanks to that, the stone mining and processing industry has become one of the important economic sectors, contributing to creating jobs, increasing budget revenue and promoting the development of the local mineral processing industry.

However, according to research, besides the great potential, white marble mining activities in Luc Yen also face many difficulties and challenges.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Director of Hung Dai Son Construction Production and Trading Service Co., Ltd. (Luc Yen commune) said that if white marble was previously mainly mined as raw materials, now the market requires large-sized stone with uniform colors. Along with that are increasingly tightened requirements for environmental protection, land management and labor safety assurance.
Therefore, according to Mr. Hung, for sustainable development, businesses must always link mineral exploitation activities with the responsibility of protecting natural resources and the environment as well as social responsibility.
Right from the survey and exploration stage to investment in exploitation at Ban Nghe stone quarry, we have focused on fully implementing regulations related to minerals, environment, and labor safety," Mr. Hung said.
Taking reporters to survey the mining site, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung introduced that the project of Hung Dai Son Company has been approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (old) for the environmental impact assessment report according to Decision No. 548/QD-BTNMT and environmental permit No. 129/GPMT-BTNMT.
This is considered a very important basis for businesses to boldly invest in production lines and expand exploitation scale in a more modern and methodical direction.

The above decisions are like "unleashing ropes", creating conditions for businesses to feel secure in investing, effectively exploiting resources, and at the same time contributing more to the local budget," the director emphasized.
However, according to Mr. Hung, although the most important conditions have been cleared, there are still certain bottlenecks in mineral recovery activities.
Mr. Hung said: "In the coming time, to thoroughly harvest according to the reserves approved by the (old) Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, businesses really need the attention of the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee to soon approve the adjustment of the investment policy so that the company is qualified to implement the harvesting of this type of mineral.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Hoang Trung Hai, Chairman of Luc Yen Commune People's Committee, said that the recovery of minerals for ordinary construction materials is currently facing difficulties due to high tax rates.
For that reason, many businesses have proposed to the province to consider adjusting the taxable price, because with the current tax rate, businesses find it difficult to consume products, leading to a very large amount of minerals being backlogged and not yet sold.
