Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. II (Kim Thanh Border Gate) was opened in November 2012, belonging to the Lao Cai (Vietnam) - Ha Khau (China) international border gate pair.
Since then, this area has always maintained a stable customs clearance rate, with hundreds of import and export vehicles passing by every day.

In recent years, trade activities through Kim Thanh Border Gate have grown significantly. In 2023, total import and export turnover through the border gate reached over 1 billion USD. In 2024, turnover continued to break through, exceeding the 2.2 billion USD mark.
By 2025, the total import and export turnover will reach more than 1.8 billion USD, making Kim Thanh a trade point worth billions of USD each year of Lao Cai province.
Records of Lao Dong reporters on January 11, 2026 show that thanks to synchronous infrastructure investment, the Kim Thanh Border Gate area is increasingly spacious and complete.
The system of wharves and warehouses for goods is arranged reasonably, helping vehicles passing through the entry and exit area to complete procedures quickly and reduce congestion.


Around the border gate, many container trucks and tractor-trailers are on duty, ready to receive and transport goods to localities in the country.
Through investigation, the Lao Cai Provincial Economic Zone Management Board has put 5 import and export channels into operation at Kim Thanh Border Gate.
Clear channel separation helps improve customs clearance capacity and shorten the waiting time for vehicles when carrying out border procedures.
It is known that the customs clearance capacity at Kim Thanh Border Gate currently meets about 1,000 import and export vehicles per day.


According to Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs, during the New Year holiday 2026, at Kim Thanh Border Gate, 703 customs declarations were received and processed, with 1,282 vehicles entering and exiting.
Import and export items through Kim Thanh Border Gate are quite diverse. Imports are mainly vegetables, tubers, fruits; coal; electricity; chemicals; fertilizers; plastics and plastic products; iron and steel; machinery, mechanical equipment.
In the opposite direction, the main export items include dragon fruit, watermelon, banana, cassava; wood of all kinds; coffee, confectionery; shoes; durian; lychee and peanut kernels.

Sharing with reporters, Mr. Tran Van Hanh - a driver operating at Kim Thanh border gate - said that the border gate has been in operation for more than ten years and has contributed to promoting the local economy.
At the end of the year, we hope that import and export activities will continue to be vibrant to have more income to cover the Lunar New Year," Mr. Hanh said.
According to Mr. Vuong Trinh Quoc - Head of the Management Board of Lao Cai Economic Zone, the unit has coordinated with functional forces to proactively divert and regulate vehicles to avoid congestion and congestion in the border gate area.
Kim Thanh border gate is effectively operating a 5-lane system, including 2 exit lanes and 3 inbound lanes. Along with the coordination of border guards, customs and related units, customs clearance activities at the border gate are maintained stably and smoothly.
