Target to attract about 21,000 workers
According to the draft Project for the construction of the Free Trade Zone, the area of the Free Trade Zone when the infrastructure is completed and functional areas are synchronized will reach about 2,400 hectares.
Da Nang Free Trade Zone integrates the functions of seaport and airport logistics with commercial services, industrial processing and other supporting functions. At the same time, it is a multi-functional complex model according to the "zone within zone" connection mechanism. Attracting development outside the territory to resonate and attract activities inside the territory, creating a comprehensive linkage effect to promote regional and national development.
According to the Advisory Group for the Da Nang Free Trade Zone project, the city has selected and proposed 10 locations for the Da Nang Free Trade Zone according to a complex model, with a total area of nearly 2,500 hectares; including areas such as logistics, production, trade - services, innovation, MICE tourism, duty-free shopping, etc.
By 2030, the Da Nang Free Trade Zone aims to directly contribute 1-2% of Da Nang's gross regional domestic product (GRDP), attracting about 21,000 workers. By 2040, the goal is to contribute 9.5% of Da Nang's GRDP and attract about 90,000 workers. By 2050, it is expected to contribute 17.9% of Da Nang's GRDP and be the workplace of 127,000 workers.
Development Breakthroughs
At the recent consultation workshop on the Project to build a Free Trade Zone, Mr. Tran Chi Cuong - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City - said that the National Assembly's approval of Resolution 136/2024/QH15 dated June 26, 2024 on the organization of urban government and piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Da Nang City (Resolution 136) demonstrates the National Assembly and the Central Government's trust in Da Nang with many specific mechanisms and policies, including the free trade zone model.
According to Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong, when building Resolution 136, Da Nang studied many models of Free Trade Zones in the world. Some localities also studied Free Trade Zones and submitted them to the Central Government but they were not successful, only Da Nang was assigned to pilot. This shows the trust the Central Government placed in Da Nang in determining the city's potential advantages.
Da Nang City and ministries and branches are making efforts to build a model that must satisfy the following requirements: The model must be consistent with the current development trend of the world, and at the same time must exploit to the maximum the advantages and potentials of Da Nang City, the Central region and Vietnam in the competitive trend of free trade zones; the pioneering free trade zone model in the direction that after preliminary review and evaluation, it can be applied and replicated nationwide.
“The spirit of Da Nang is to boldly pilot, make breakthroughs in development and continue to propose new policy mechanisms, not just stopping at Resolution 136 of the National Assembly,” emphasized Vice Chairman of Da Nang People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong.
