Exports hit record high
According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), the import-export turnover in 2024 will reach a record of nearly 800 billion USD, up 15% compared to the previous year and 2.5 times higher than the assigned plan. Of which, the whole year's export is estimated to reach 404 billion USD. "This is a new milestone for the Vietnamese economy," Mr. Tran Thanh Hai - Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department - shared with Lao Dong reporter.
Of the total exported goods in 2024, the export of machinery, equipment, tools, and other spare parts will lead with 71.727 billion USD; the group of phones of all kinds and components will reach 53.742 billion USD; the group of machinery, equipment, tools, and other spare parts will reach over 52.056 billion USD; the group of textiles and garments: 36.721 billion USD; the group of shoes and sandals of all kinds: 22.909 billion USD...
According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), it is worth noting that the export of the domestic economic sector is recovering well when both the foreign-invested enterprise sector and the 100% domestic-owned enterprise sector recorded growth and the export of domestic enterprises is estimated to increase by 18.9%, while the growth rate of the FDI sector is at 12.1% (excluding crude oil). This shows that the health of domestic enterprises is recovering well.
Contributing to the optimistic export situation in 2024, the agriculture and rural development sector (AARD) has achieved a miracle with a total export value of goods reaching 62.5 billion USD, with a trade surplus of 18.6 billion USD. The export of wood and wood products and seafood of the agricultural sector continues to be in the group of export goods over 10 billion USD, the seafood industry has regained its form after a difficult period.
Export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products brings in "net profit"
In 2024, the agricultural, forestry and fishery products group achieved a new miracle: Total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached 62.5 billion USD, up 18.7%; trade surplus reached 18.6 billion USD, up 53.1% over the same period last year. In particular, the trump cards of the agricultural sector, wood and fishery, have regained their form after a period of facing many difficulties.
According to Mr. Tran Quang Bao - Director of the Forestry Department - the export turnover of forestry products in 2024 is estimated to reach a record of 17.3 billion USD, an increase of 19.4% compared to 2023. Of which, the export of wood and wood products will reach about 16.3 billion USD, the rest is non-timber forest products. The trade surplus value of the entire forestry sector in 2024 will reach about 14.4 billion USD.
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), seafood exports have overcome many difficulties in the market and logistics in 2024 to bring in over 10 billion USD, of which shrimp exports reached 4 billion USD, up 16.7%; Pangasius exports: 2 billion USD, up 8.9% over the same period in 2023. With the return of seafood products, the agricultural sector has contributed 2 product groups to the "Over 10 billion USD Export Club" in 2024 (seafood exports in 2023 reached over 9.2 billion USD).
Sharing with Lao Dong reporter, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien emphasized: This is the result of efforts to change thinking, restructure the agricultural sector towards increasing value, green transformation and the process of negotiating and opening the market for many key agricultural products. In particular, the signing of many Protocols between Vietnam and China has opened up new opportunities for the group of vegetables, fruits and bird's nests.
"In 2025, the agricultural sector will accelerate the implementation of the 5-year development plan 2021-2025 and the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress. The sector will continue to shift its thinking from agricultural production to agricultural economy, develop ecological agriculture, and associate it with the construction of modern new rural areas.
The industry will focus on removing difficulties, reducing negative impacts from epidemics and natural disasters, and taking advantage of opportunities from the EVFTA and CPTPP agreements to increase exports, with the goal of achieving a GDP growth rate of 3.3-3.4% and agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover of 64-65 billion USD," Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien affirmed.
Businessman Vu Tuan Anh - Chairman of JCI Vietnam 2022: In 2024, exports will be a bright spot in Binh Duong's economic picture when the province contributes an estimated 34.5 billion USD to the country's total export turnover, an increase of 12.7% over the same period last year, with Binh Duong's trade surplus reaching 10 billion USD.
