Mr. Vu A Bang - Vice Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee has just signed Decision No. 1851 approving the map of the "Muong Ang" geographical indication area for Muong Ang coffee products; and the map of the "Tu Chua" geographical indication area for the Shan Tu Chua tuyet tea product.
The Provincial People's Committee authorizes the Department of Agriculture and Environment to use the place name "Muong Ang" to register geographical indications for Muong Ang coffee products; use the place name "Tu Chua" to register geographical indications for Tu Chua Shan tuyet tea products.
own the registration of the geographical indication "Muong Ang" for Muong Ang coffee products; the geographical indication "Tu Chua" for the product "Tu Chua Shan Tuyet tea" and manage the geographical indication after the product is protected.
The Provincial People's Committee also assigned the Department of Science and Technology to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment and relevant organizations and individuals to carry out procedures to change the petitioner, organize the management of geographical indications to ensure compliance with current legal regulations.
The decision takes effect from August 18, 2025.
Currently, the Arabica coffee growing area in Muong Ang district (old) is more than 3,000 hectares - this is also the locality with the largest coffee growing area in Dien Bien province. Tua Chua District (old) has over 10,000 ancient tea trees along with over 100 hectares of Shan Tuyet tea.
