On the morning of March 11, Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee had a working session with the working delegation of Vestas Development A/S Company to exchange views on development orientations for wind power projects in the locality.
At the working session, Mr. Nguyen Minh Phu - Vice Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee said that the whole province currently has 23 medium and small hydropower plants operating, with a total capacity of about 326.8 MW. Besides hydropower sources, the locality is focusing on exploiting other renewable energy sources, especially wind and solar power.
Provincial leaders requested Vestas Development A/S Company to soon complete the dossier to submit for appraisal and approval of investment policy, and at the same time approve investors for a number of wind power projects in the area.
The proposed projects include: Dien Bien Dong wind power plant phase 1 with a capacity of 126 MW, Muong Ang wind power plant with a capacity of 108 MW and Tia Dinh wind power plant with a capacity of 120 MW.
The province also encourages investors to soon implement the next steps after being approved, in order to put projects into operation as soon as possible, promoting the efficiency of renewable energy sources.

According to leaders of the Provincial People's Committee, the above-mentioned wind power projects have been put into the "green channel" priority area by the locality, in order to shorten the processing time of procedures. Dien Bien is committed to accompanying, supporting and guiding investors throughout the project implementation process.
In addition, the province will continue to propose to the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to consider adding to the planning of the Na Tong Wind Power Plant project with an expected capacity of 180 MW.
At the working session, Mr. Thomas Arendt - Senior Vice President of the Group, CEO of Vestas Development A/S Company - said that Vestas Development A/S is a member unit of Vestas Wind Systems Group of Denmark, the world's largest wind turbine manufacturer.
This enterprise is currently operating in the field of developing and investing in renewable energy projects, especially wind power in many countries, including Vietnam.

According to Mr. Thomas Arendt, through the survey and research process, Dien Bien is assessed to have many favorable conditions for wind power development. The company expressed its desire that the province soon consider and approve the investment proposal dossier for the two wind power plant projects Muong Ang and Dien Bien Dong.
At the same time, approve and award investment certificates for investors to carry out the next steps.
