Once known as a "hero" when rescuing nearly 100 people from the fierce flood, Mr. Mua A Thi (27 years old, Head of Hang Pu Xi village, Xa Dung commune, Dien Bien province) has just decided to run for election as a member of the Commune People's Council.
According to Lao Dong's investigation, Mr. Mua A Thi is currently running for election in constituency No. 4 of Xa Dung commune, including the villages: Co De, Hang Tro, Po Sinh A, Po Sinh B and Hang Song Duoi.
Talking on the phone, Mr. Mua A Thi said that his biggest motivation comes from understanding the difficulties of the people.

After the flood that occurred in the early morning of August 1, 2025, although the people of Hang Pu Xi village were supported by the State to relocate to a safe resettlement area, a series of fields and production land were eroded. Facing the scene of losing cultivated land, many young people in the village had to leave their hometowns to work far away.
Village head Mua A Thi believes that running for a member of the Commune People's Council is an opportunity for him to have a voice, representing the legitimate rights of the people.
Now that life has returned to peace, I am thinking about how to make people no longer suffer" - Mr. Mua A Thi said.
At voter meetings, he affirmed that whether elected or not, he will still stand side by side with the government to remove obstacles and bring a more prosperous life to the village.
Mr. Thi believes that the landslide area is too large, and restoring fields is both costly and infeasible, so he advocates guiding people to convert crops.
He also proposed to take advantage of the coffee and passion fruit seed sources supported by the province. His family and 10 households have pioneered the trial planting of 6 hectares of intercropped coffee.
He outlined a roadmap to gradually switch from cassava (income of 13 million VND/year) to crops that bring higher economic value and are suitable for the soil.

The 9X village chief is also interested in promoting the construction of inter-village roads and repairing and solidifying the irrigation canal system. These are projects that help people travel conveniently and proactively source water for production.
Although Hang Pu Xi village has up to 40% of poor households, Mr. Thi frankly pointed out that there are still some households with a mentality of waiting for the State, not proactively doing business.
Village head Mua A Thi added that if elected, he will propose priority resources for poor and near-poor households that truly have the will to try, have the aspiration to rise out of poverty, in order to ensure that support resources are used effectively.

Previously, as Lao Dong newspaper reported, in the early morning of August 1, 2025, 72 households and more than 400 people in Hang Pu Xi village, Xa Dung commune were immersed in sleep. It was still raining heavily outside. Village chief Mua A Thi called the households in the dangerous area to grasp the situation, and then decided to evacuate about 94 people from more than 20 households to a safe location.
When asked about his brave action in the flood, Village Head Mua A Thi humbly said: "I dare not call myself a hero. In my position as village head, I am aware of my responsibility to protect the people...".
With extremely courageous, decisive, and wise actions, Village Head Mua A Thi was awarded the First-class Labor Medal and received a letter of commendation from Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
