With the theme "Building a common prosperity bridge", the Vietnam - Australia Economic Forum 2025 was organized by the University of Economics (Hanoi National University) in collaboration with the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia and the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AusCham) on September 26.
Speaking at the forum, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong, Vice President of Hanoi National University, said that today's event is not only a typical academic event but also has great significance in providing a comprehensive perspective on the bilateral partnership between Vietnam and Australia.

"This is an opportunity for leaders, experts and scholars from the two countries to discuss and discuss development orientations in areas such as trade, investment, education, innovation towards sustainable development" - Mr. Truong said.

Vietnam and Australia have established diplomatic relations since 1973, and since then, bilateral relations have continuously developed, especially in the fields of trade, investment, education, defense, etc.
According to experts, Australia is currently in the group of 20 countries with large direct investments in Vietnam, with a total accumulated registered capital of more than 2 billion USD. Over the past 50 years, Australia has provided more than 3 billion Australian dollars (AUD) in Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Vietnam.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Hien - Deputy Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission informed that Australia is currently the 9th largest trading partner of Vietnam and Vietnam ranks 10th in the list of largest partners of Australia. In terms of economy, bilateral trade turnover has reached 14 billion USD in 2024...

"The opportunity for cooperation between Vietnam and Australia is huge, especially in the fields of trade, investment, education and science and technology. We can jointly implement research, development and technology transfer projects, promote two-way trade, and expand cooperation in new areas such as digital transformation, energy transformation and climate change response.
This is not only a driving force for economic growth, but also contributes to solving global challenges, promoting peace, stability and common prosperity" - Mr. Hien said.
Sharing about the prospects for cooperation between Vietnam and Australia in the coming time, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong said that in the context of the global economy strongly shifting to a digital, green and sustainable economic model, both Vietnam and Australia are facing new opportunities and challenges.
Vietnam has advantages in young human resources, competitive costs and strategic geographical location in Southeast Asia, while Australia possesses advanced technology, high-quality education systems and management experience in a developed economy.
"This addition creates a solid foundation for establishing extensive, effective and sustainable partnerships, contributing to enhancing the position of both countries in the region and in the international arena" - Mr. Truong said.
