Sources from the Office of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee confirmed that representatives of Vinh Hoan Joint Stock Company - a business specializing in processing and exporting pangasius - have just proposed building a pangasius museum. This proposal was presented directly by business leaders to Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Pham Thanh Ngai on the occasion of him leading the provincial delegation to work with the business on January 16, 2026.
At the working session, business leaders proposed a number of investment orientations in the province in the coming time, such as: leasing land to invest in Binh Thanh High-Quality Pangasius Breeding Center, developing pangasius farming areas... Especially in which there is a proposal to build the Pangasius Museum Project. This is considered as a gratitude and honor to the fish species and the fish industry that has brought the country billions of dollars each year.
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, pangasius is a commodity with very strong development speed. Right from its first participation in the export market (1997), it brought in 1.6 million dollars and has continuously reached over 2 billion dollars per year since then. Thereby, it also solves stable jobs at a high level for tens of thousands of workers through the stages of care, processing, export...
In addition, Vinh Hoan Joint Stock Company and some businesses in the same industry also invest in specialized processing of pangasius products into many value-added items and take advantage of by-products of the process of processing fish filets for export such as: fish blood, tapioca skin, meat scraps... to process into many products with high economic value, such as premium cooking oil, many collagen-related items, such as Collagen cream, crispy dried pangasius skin fun chip...
After listening to the proposals, representatives of departments and branches exchanged specific information about the implementation order and procedures and requested businesses to soon complete detailed proposal dossiers to serve as a basis for considering, guiding and supporting implementation in accordance with regulations.
It is known that over the past time, Dong Thap province has highly appreciated the great contributions of the pangasius industry and has many gratitude activities. Especially as one of the strong localities, Dong Thap province has coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) to organize the 1st Pangasius Festival (2022), and Dong Thap Pangasius Festival Day (2024).
Here, many activities were organized to encourage, motivate, and recognize the pangasius fishing and farming profession in the local economy, the Mekong Delta region and the whole country. At the same time, collectives and individuals with typical achievements in the journey of developing the pangasius industry were awarded and named.
