On January 18, a section of road near the canal bank on Ba Dinh street, Chanh Hung ward, Ho Chi Minh City suddenly seriously subsided, stretching nearly 50 m, causing functional forces to urgently blockade to ensure safety for people.

The incident happened at nearly 6 am on the same day. People living near 310A Hung Phu park area (Chanh Hung ward) discovered signs of cracks on the canal surface and then suddenly collapsed and subsided into the canal bed.

At the scene, the subsidence stretched nearly 50 m along Ba Dinh street, deeply encroaching on the road surface, forming a dangerous deep hole. Because the incident occurred in the early morning, fortunately no casualties were caused. However, a large amount of soil, rocks and concrete of the road section was swept away, directly threatening the surrounding infrastructure.
Mr. Minh Hoang, a local resident, recounted in shock: "Hearing a loud noise, I ran out and saw that a large section of road had disappeared, and the canal water began to encroach deeper. Luckily, there were not many cars passing by at that time.
Immediately after receiving the news, the functional forces of Chanh Hung ward coordinated with relevant professional units to be present to handle it. By more than 12 pm on the same day, both ends of Ba Dinh street were still strictly blocked. A barrier system and warning signs were set up to prevent vehicles from entering the dangerous area, serving the survey work.
Currently, specialized agencies are assessing the extent of damage and urgently finding the cause to have a plan to reinforce and repair this canal bank section.
Ba Dinh street is originally an important traffic axis along the canal in the area. The blockade to handle the incident is expected to have some impact on people's travel and daily life in the coming days.
