In the context of strong e-commerce development, the problem of counterfeit and counterfeit goods is becoming a major concern for consumers, businesses and management agencies. Not only causing financial losses, counterfeit goods also undermine social trust, hinder the development of genuine businesses and distort the market.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoa - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Business Association warned: "If the market is not transparent, gold will die, and if it is weak, it will still live". According to him, counterfeit goods not only hit consumers' wallets but also eroded the competitive momentum of well-run businesses, creating an unhealthy business environment. Meanwhile, the resources for inspection and control by authorities are limited, unable to cover all transactions, especially on digital platforms.
Faced with this situation, Mr. Hoa emphasized the role of distributors and e-commerce platforms in self-screening products before distributing them to the market. We highly appreciate the role of responsible distributors. If e-commerce platforms only allow selling standard products, then each person will join hands to create a healthy business ecosystem, he said.

From the perspective of state management, Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy - Deputy Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department pointed out the specific challenges of checking and tracing counterfeit goods in the digital environment.
An individual can create hundreds of accounts, post fake information on social networks, hire sellers, transport and pay through third parties to avoid control, said Mr. Huy. The dispersation, anonymousness and non-tradition of e-commerce platforms face many obstacles in control work.
The platform is tightened, real goods are on the throne
Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh - TikTok representative in Vietnam - admitted that counterfeit goods not only cause economic damage but also affect health and lose public trust. According to Mr. Thanh, this platform is applying many strict regulations and strictly handling violating accounts. Every year, we have to handle hundreds of thousands of violating accounts. However, the current handling is mainly account blocking and limiting activities; there needs to be coordination from authorities to rectify this situation" - Mr. Thanh said.
Notably, Mr. Thanh shared that when the platform tightened control, the number of genuine goods sold increased significantly, contrary to concerns that strict control would reduce sales.
According to experts, to repel the problem of counterfeit goods in the digital age, there must be close coordination from many sides. Every link in the supply chain, from management agencies, digital platforms, distributors to consumers, needs to act together to create a transparent, safe and sustainable market.
