The Quang Ninh LNG Power Plant project is located in Cua Ong ward, Quang Ninh province, invested by the Joint Venture of Vietnam Oil and Gas Power Corporation (PV Power) - Vietnam Mechanical and Installation Joint Stock Company and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd - Marubeni Corporation with a total capital of about 2.2 billion VND.
Project capacity scale: 1,500 MW (including 02 generators, each generator has a capacity of 750 MW). The area of the project is 109.82 hectares, including 31.33 hectares of land and 78.49 hectares of water surface.
However, up to now, the authorities of Quang Ninh province have only cleared the land, reclaiming 4.9 hectares of land. Cua Ong Ward is completing the steps according to the compensation, support, resettlement, and recovery process of the remaining land area to hand over to the Construction Investment Project Management Board of Area II, moving towards handing over to the investor.
The People's Committee of Quang Ninh province requested the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects of Area II to hand over 4.9 hectares of land to the investor before August 11. At the same time, learn from experience in site clearance and carry out handover procedures to the investor.
Regarding the project's water surface area, the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Department of Industry and Trade to support the investor in completing the procedures and submitting a report on the progress monitoring to hand over the water surface to the investor in August 2025. Cua Ong Ward urgently completes the process of site clearance and hands over to the investor the remaining land area in the third quarter of 2025.
Started in 2021 and expected to put the No. 1 plant into power generation in 2026, but later due to having to adjust it to comply with the Power Plan VIII as well as related plans, investors had to adjust the project implementation progress compared to the original plan.
The Quang Ninh LNG liquefied natural gas plant, once completed, will be the first LNG power plant in the province, contributing to the implementation of the energy transition policy, contributing 9 billion kWh/year of electricity to the national power system, ensuring energy security, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing about 57,700 billion VND to the local budget within 25 years.
