On September 9, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province said that, implementing the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the unit is accelerating the progress of origin tracing to meet the requirements of the domestic consumption market and export for key agricultural products of the province.
As of August 20, 2026, Gia Lai province has had 436 planting areas licensed and approved with an area of 13,173ha.
However, according to assessments, with a large province with a lot of production potential like Gia Lai, the progress of granting planting area codes is still slow and has not met the requirements.
Therefore, the Department of Agriculture and Environment must focus on prioritizing concentrated production areas, key products with competitive advantages of the province such as durian, coffee and products for export.
Commune and ward authorities receive dossiers, inspect and issue or reissue planting area codes, packaging facility codes, must ensure the correct order, procedures and conditions according to regulations.
Gia Lai requests not to chase after quantity, not to lower requirements and conditions according to regulations to increase the number of codes issued. Inspection dossiers must accurately reflect the current status of planting areas and packaging facilities.
The planting area code is issued by a competent authority to a specific crop production area, for management, traceability and quality control of agricultural products.
Currently, many markets, especially those with strict quarantine requirements, require agricultural products to come from planting areas that are coded. Thereby, helping businesses and buyers identify the origin of products.
With the "Reaching out to the international market in the 2026-2030 period" program (GoGlobal), Gia Lai province aims to bring the province's total export turnover in this period to over 17 billion USD.
