Many impressive results
In recent years, Gia Lai province has focused on building large-scale specialized growing areas, applying high technology to the production of key agricultural products.
Currently, the whole province has about 97,000 hectares of coffee with an output of over 250,000 tons/year; 13,000 hectares of pepper with an output of over 47,000 tons/year; nearly 80,000 hectares of rubber with an output of about 117,000 tons/year; and more than 47,000 hectares of coffee beans, reaching an estimated output of 38,500 tons/year.
According to Mr. Luu Trung Nghia - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Gia Lai province, thanks to the advantage of cultivated areas and agricultural production potential, the province has attracted nearly 300 investment projects in the agricultural - forestry sector. Of which, there are 50 cultivation projects with a total investment capital of about VND 10,402 billion; 209 livestock projects with a total capital of about VND 35,000 billion; 36 forestry projects, deployed on an area of about 39,000 hectares.
Currently, the agricultural product group accounts for 70 - 80% of the province's total export turnover. Key products such as coffee, pepper, rubber... have met quality requirements, capable of penetrating demanding markets such as: US, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and EU.
In addition to agriculture, Gia Lai also possesses great potential in developing renewable energy industries such as hydropower, solar power, wind power and biomass power. With its geographical location in the central Central Highlands and the advantage of being on the axis of the North-South 500kV power transmission lines, Gia Lai has many favorable conditions to develop this field.
To date, the province has planned 88 renewable energy projects with a total capacity of more than 4,332MW. Of these, about 3,250MW has been invested in construction and put into operation, contributing significantly to the province's sustainable development goals in the new period.
Prioritizing investment in potential sectors
Mr. Pham Van Binh - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Gia Lai province - said that in the coming time, the province will continue to mobilize resources, focusing on attracting investment in areas with great potential.
In the agricultural and forestry sector, the province is oriented to attract high-tech agricultural projects, organic agriculture, afforestation, development of medicinal plant areas and construction of high-quality plant and animal breeding centers.
Regarding industry, Gia Lai calls for investment in building infrastructure for industrial parks and clusters; developing logistics systems, dry ports; building agricultural - forestry processing factories and livestock feed production facilities.
In the fields of trade, services and tourism, the province aims to develop commercial centers, smart urban areas, sports areas (such as golf courses), entertainment areas and eco-tourism, resorts, spirituality, and community areas.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Son - Director of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that the infrastructure and logistics system is a key condition to help goods access the market quickly and meet international standards. Therefore, Gia Lai province needs to prioritize investment in upgrading transport routes connecting the raw material area with Le Thanh international border gate - an important gateway for exporting goods to ASEAN countries.
According to Mr. Son, the province needs to encourage businesses to invest in cold storage systems, processing centers and packaging that meet export standards to ensure the quality of agricultural products in the entire supply chain. At the same time, there should be a policy to support businesses in reducing input costs such as transportation, quarantine, registration of growing area codes... to increase the competitiveness of Gia Lai agricultural products in the international market.
