On March 9, some electronic newspapers reported content related to the issue of pork and live pig prices, including statements such as "The price of live pigs is the highest in the past 5 years" and "Vietnam spends double for frozen pork".
The press reported: Par crabs prices in some provinces and cities of Vietnam reached 80,000 VND/kg, the pig market hit a new peak of the highest in the past 5 years. The shortage of local domestic pigs has pushed pig prices up and has not stopped.
According to experts, the price of live pigs in the coming days is likely to continue to increase slightly, especially in the North and Central regions.
Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan - Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Province Livestock Association - said that the African swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease have been quite complicated since last year, which has reduced pig production.
In farms, many newborn pigs and dairy pigs cannot grow up yet, reducing the number of breeding animals and pigs, thereby causing the price of pigs to increase rapidly, and the barn owners have not had time to re-herd. The epidemic will soon be controlled, and meat production will soon stabilize.
However, the price and supply of pork will hardly be able to fully recover to the way they were before sooner.
