Currently, the price of whiteleg shrimp purchased at ponds in Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, and Soc Trang is quite attractive to farmers. Specifically, the 40 shrimp/kg size costs 170,000 - 190,000 VND/kg; the 100 shrimp/kg size fluctuates at 98,000 - 125,000 VND/kg, an increase of 8,000 - 10,000 VND/kg compared to early November 2024 and an increase of 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg compared to mid-2024. This is the highest price increase in the past year. With this price, whiteleg shrimp farmers have a profit of 20,000 - 30,000 VND/kg compared to the production cost.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung in Long Dien Dong commune, Dong Hai district, Bac Lieu province said: Shrimp prices are high, but currently there are not many shrimp ponds left in the community. Because shrimp prices were low before, farmers did not dare to breed. Shrimp prices increased because traders caught live shrimp to sell in the domestic market and exported whole shrimp to serve Tet.
Mr. Ho Thanh Tuan - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dong Hai district, the locality with the largest shrimp farming area in Bac Lieu province - said that the district is advising farmers on stocking density; sending technical staff to directly grasp the area, guide and support people in the farming process...
The agricultural sector also strengthens guidance for shrimp farmers to strictly follow the instructions of specialized agencies such as: stocking at moderate density, not too thick. During the farming process, it requires care techniques, when the temperature drops, it is necessary to reduce both the quantity and number of feedings; pay attention to maintaining a stable water environment, if the index of environmental factors is outside the appropriate threshold, immediate measures must be taken.
Bac Lieu Fisheries Sub-Department coordinates with relevant agencies to strengthen inspection of aquatic veterinary hygiene conditions of breeding and aquatic feed production facilities in the area; strictly control the quality of aquatic breeds, feed, aquatic veterinary medicines, biological products, other inputs in aquaculture and strictly control the quality of raw aquatic products for processing and export; conduct inspections of aquaculture facilities and households regarding the implementation of regulations in aquaculture and environmental protection.
Bac Lieu plans a diverse and abundant shrimp farming area aiming to ensure the environment. The province has planned to build a high-tech shrimp farming area of 27,200 hectares, a super-intensive white-leg shrimp farming area of 4,000 hectares in Bac Lieu city, Hoa Binh and Dong Hai districts; and an intensive and semi-intensive shrimp farming area of 8,000 hectares in Bac Lieu city, Hoa Binh, Vinh Loi and Dong Hai districts.
In addition, build an 8,000-hectare rotational shrimp-rice farming area in Phuoc Long and Hong Dan districts, Gia Rai town; an ecological shrimp farming area combined with stable forest planting with an area of 4,700 hectares in Hoa Binh and Dong Hai districts.
