Thus, world oil prices last week increased slightly by more than 1% and simultaneously decreased sharply by more than 2%. According to analysts, oil prices last week were affected by many factors. Among them, the threat of supply shortage due to Hurricane Rafael is easing.
The main factor supporting oil prices is the expectation that US President-elect Donald Trump will tighten sanctions on Iran and Venezuela, which could reduce oil supplies to the world market.
Putting pressure on oil prices last week was the decision by the US Federal Reserve to cut interest rates by 0.25 percentage points on November 7. In addition, China’s latest economic stimulus package has been less impressive. The Chinese government announced a package to ease local government debt repayment strains, but those measures have had no direct impact on demand.
