World gasoline and oil prices fluctuated sharply in the context of Iran and the US making compensation claims to each other, reducing the prospect of reaching an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran demands that the US lift sanctions against Tehran, compensate and end military threats before this strategic sea route is reopened. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump demands that Iran compensate for "all those they have killed and seriously injured".
Along with that, Iran said it is moving closer to a final agreement with Oman to identify new shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz. However, the conditions Tehran set for Washington continue to make the prospect of reopening this important shipping route unpredictable.
On August 10, according to TASS news agency, US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mike Waltz said that the issue of frozen assets is of particular interest to Iranian negotiators in exchanges with the US.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Waltz said that Iranian representatives have repeatedly mentioned the need to access cash and the country's assets are currently frozen by the US.
Iranians are now more afraid of Finance Minister Bessent than War Minister Hegseth," Waltz said, adding that Iran has repeatedly demanded access to cash and assets that are being frozen by the US.
