A magnitude 7.4 earthquake hit western Colombia on August 10, shaking this South American nation and neighboring Ecuador, forcing people to evacuate their homes and buildings.

The epicenter was in San Jose Del Palmar, a city in the Choco region, about 400km west of Colombia's capital Bogota, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS) and Colombia's corresponding agency. The USGS said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 107km.
