World gasoline prices fell sharply last week as the prospect of reaching an agreement to cool down tensions and restore maritime operations through the Strait of Hormuz became clearer.
President Donald Trump said that negotiations have made some progress, but the parties still disagree on the conditions for fully restoring maritime operations through this strategic transport route.
Positive signals about the possibility of reaching an agreement have strongly impacted market sentiment. However, investors remain cautious as the specific conditions for reaching an official agreement have not been clarified.
Meanwhile, the Iranian-backed Houthi forces announced a large-scale attack targeting Saudi Arabia-backed forces in Yemen, raising concerns about the risk of continued instability in the region.
During the week, Iran and Oman agreed on a route for ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, located between the two countries. However, the possibility of the US approving the related terms remains open.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that Iran and Oman had agreed on the geographical coordinates of the new maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz. He said the two countries may soon announce a joint statement on the content of the agreement.
