World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices fluctuated sharply. At the end of the first trading session of the week (April 20), WTI and Brent oil prices increased by 6.87% and 5.64% respectively.
By this morning's session, both oil commodities turned down sharply. At 7:38 am (Vietnam time), WTI crude oil price was at 86.55 USD/barrel, down 0.87 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 1%. WTI oil closed the previous trading session at 82.42 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 86.09 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 94.79 USD/barrel, up 0.51 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.54%. Brent oil price closed the previous trading session at 94.27 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 94.27 USD/barrel.
According to analysts, oil prices fluctuated sharply in the first session of the week as instability surrounding the peace negotiation process between the US and Iran increased, after violence flared up again in the Hormuz Strait area.
Tensions escalated again last weekend, when the US arrested an Iranian cargo ship on charges of violating the blockade. This move met with reactions from Iran, as the country declared it would respond, raising concerns that conflict could break out again.
In the context of the two-week ceasefire coming to an end this weekend, new developments have cast a shadow over the prospect of holding the next round of negotiations between the US and Iran in Pakistan.
However, analysts note that oil prices are still lower than the peak recorded since the Middle East conflict broke out.
