World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices fluctuated sharply. At the end of yesterday's trading session (April 16), WTI and Brent oil prices increased by 3.7% and 4.7% respectively.
By this morning's session, world oil prices continued to record remarkable developments. At 7:47 am (Vietnam time), WTI crude oil price was at 93.23 USD/barrel, down 1.46 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 1.54%. WTI oil closed the previous trading session at 94.69 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 93.22 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 98.28 USD/barrel, up 0.18 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.18%. Brent oil price closed the previous trading session at 98.09 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 98 USD/barrel.
According to analysts, the market is showing skepticism about the possibility that negotiations between the US and Iran will soon resolve the energy supply disruption situation in the Middle East. Caution overwhelms the market as the conflict drags on, especially the transportation through the Strait of Hormuz - a shipping route that transports about 20% of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas production - has not yet been restored.
Circulation stagnation for a long time is increasing the risk of supply shortages, pushing the market into a tense state. In that context, opposing signals from the negotiation process further increase in uncertainty.
Data from the US Government also shows that supply developments are not very positive. The country's crude oil inventories unexpectedly decreased by 913,000 barrels last week, in contrast to the forecast increase of 140,000 barrels. At the same time, gasoline and distillate inventories decreased as many countries increased imports from the US to compensate for the Middle East supply shortage, thereby pushing US exports up.
Observers believe that, although large-scale attacks have not occurred, traffic through the Hormuz Strait has not improved, still creating significant pressure on the energy market and global financial system. The prospect of reaching a comprehensive agreement to reopen this strategic transport route is therefore declining, as the parties currently prioritize temporary solutions to limit the risk of conflict recurrence.
