World oil price today
World oil prices today decreased slightly. At 11:54, WTI crude oil was at 69.09 USD/barrel, down 0.02 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.03%. WTI crude oil closed the previous trading session at 69.11 USD/barrel, opening today's session at 69.19 USD/barrel.
Brent oil was at 72.36 USD/barrel, down 0.01 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.01%. Brent oil closed the previous trading session at 72.37 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 72.42 USD/barrel.
Thus, world oil prices turned down slightly after yesterday's strong increase. At the end of the first trading session of the week, Brent and WTI oil prices both increased by 1.2% after US President Donald Trump announced that he would impose a 25% tax on countries purchasing oil and gas from Venezuela.
Meanwhile, putting pressure on oil prices is the decision to extend the narrowing of oil and export activities from Venezuela for oil producer Chevron until May 27 instead of 30 days from March 4-3.
According to Reuters, the two moves will ease the pressure on Chevron while adding pressure to other Venezuelan oil consumers. However, it is still uncertain how the Trump administration will implement the tariffs.
