World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices simultaneously decreased sharply. At the end of yesterday's trading session (July 27), WTI and Brent oil prices decreased by 7.5% and 8.7% respectively.
At 8:04 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 81.86 USD/barrel, down 0.75 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.91%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 82.61 USD/barrel, and opened today's session at 81.89 USD/barrel.
Brent oil was at 85.25 USD/barrel, down 0.13 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.15%. Brent oil closed the previous trading session at 85.38 USD/barrel, and opened today's session also at 85.38 USD/barrel.
Thus, both oil commodities have fallen to their lowest level in about 10 days.
Oil prices continued the downward trend after the US temporarily suspended airstrikes against Iran, increasing expectations of a diplomatic solution that could help resume oil transportation across the Strait of Hormuz soon.
However, tensions have not completely cooled down. On July 27 (local time), Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei declared that Tehran would not let the US decide the time to end the conflict between the two countries, and affirmed that Iran would continue to defend itself "while it is necessary".
According to Xinhua, speaking at a press conference in Tehran, Mr. Baghaei said that the US has been "stuck" in the conflict for the past 5 months. "Iran will not allow the US to decide whether to enter conflict or peace. We will defend ourselves in the necessary time," Mr. Baghaei emphasized.
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the country recently had exchanges with Oman on the management of this strategic maritime route. The discussions were conducted under a bilateral mechanism between Iran and Oman, without the participation of the United States.
According to Mr. Baghaei, negotiations with Oman are taking place in a positive direction. However, the Strait of Hormuz has not yet been reopened.
