World oil prices simultaneously fell in the last trading session of the week, as investors cautiously assessed signals showing that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) continues to prioritize controlling inflation. The market is also under pressure from speculation about the possibility of reaching an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier this week, the US announced sanctions described as "the harshest in history" against Iran. Iran criticized these measures and said they would not be as effective as Washington expected.
Meanwhile, intermediaries are stepping up efforts to promote the reopening of the Hormuz Strait. Iran is said to be building a list of conditions for reopening this maritime route, after Pakistan and Qatar asked Tehran to make specific requests.
However, transportation through the Strait of Hormuz remained low. According to data from maritime tracking firm Kpler, only 7 cargo ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz on August 27, lower than the average of the last 10 days.
